With the limited size of the apartment and the demands of modern living, the designers faced the challenge of incorporating the Haussmannian style in a small space. They carefully selected wood borders, wallpapers with modern European patterns, and vintage furniture accessories to create a classic and contemporary living space. The use of simplified mouldings from the Haussmannian style became the main decorative feature throughout the unit. Grey mouldings were used to create a feature wall that extended from the dining room to the living room, while trims adorned door and cabinet surfaces in various rooms.
To further enhance the Haussmannian look and feel, a distressed mirror was incorporated into the design. This added a touch of vintage charm and reflected the timeless elegance of the style. The designers also focused on creating a clean layout for the apartment. By using a hidden door for the guestroom, they were able to connect both the living and dining rooms, creating a sense of extension and connection between the two areas. The master bedroom was enlarged by utilizing the previously wasted corridor space, and the master bathroom was transformed by replacing a brick wall with a glass partition, allowing for a stunning view.
Technology played a role in realizing the modern elements of the design. The living room featured a latest TV model from Bang Olufsen, which could gracefully pivot up to 90 degrees from the wall, ensuring optimal viewing angles. This blend of technology and design added to the overall sophistication of the space.
This 902 square feet apartment is a testament to the successful fusion of the Haussmannian style with modern sensibilities. The designers at Grande Development Limited created a unique living space that captures the essence of Parisian architecture while catering to the demands of contemporary living. The project lasted for six months and is located in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong.
This design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2016 for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity. Recognized for its incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology, the design contributes to quality of life improvements and showcases strong technical and creative skills. It is a true testament to the ability to make the world a better place through design.
